There are few topics that are more difficult to talk about than suicide. It has touched so many lives and devastated everyone in its path. Does this mean we can’t examine its history and controversies? On this episode we attempt to do just this with an eye towards history, morality, and culture.

Michael Cholbi is Professor and Personal Chair in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. He has published widely in ethical theory, practical ethics, and the philosophy of death and dying.

Paolo Stellino is an Appointed Research Fellow at the NOVA University of Lisbon Institute of Philosophy and an Invited Professor in their Department of Philosophy. His main areas of interest are the history of philosophy, the philosophy of film, and ethics.

Together they have edited the Oxford Handbook of the Philosophy of Suicide published last year by Oxford University Press.
